Remembering Our Heros

Its Memorial Day 2011 and as I sit down to write this, my mind is blank. I wish I were a better man and would be in Iraq or perhaps Afghanistan fighting for our country. But I'm a guy that only feels strong when Im in the comfort of my own home.  All that just makes me more thankful for those who do have the courage to serve.
A couple of weeks ago I received an email from a marine, in it he told me that some times it gets hard but he would never trade it for the world. Knowing that he is defending the country he loves is all he ever needs.
That got me thinking. Those are our soldiers. Yet aside from Memorial Day weekend we never seem to find it important enough to thank them. Than there are those that go as far as to insult them. But they just keep quite and continue to fight the wars we wish to imagine don't exist. Memorial Day comes for us once a year but for them its reality. They live and breathe war every day. Weather its in the trenches in Iraq or in the mountains of Afghanistan  Their there and they don't run away.
My "Memorial Day resolution" is to every morning for the next year to say a silent thanks to our soldiers. Be a man and do the same.

For One Day It Was The Norm-Wedding Fun

Its been one hell of a long night, and I may not want to hear Pierce Morgan or Anderson Cooper for a while. But I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of The Royal Wedding. I gotta say Im not really much a wedding guy and defiantly not a gown guy but it was all beautiful in a way I never imagined a wedding can be. A lot of different thoughts went through my head as I watched so why not share them with you.
Cinderella, Snow White, (insert another fairy tale queen here), when i read those books as a little child I thought. Hey that will never happen in the real world. Well last night I was proven wrong.

For a couple of hours it seemed like fairy was the norm.
People walking around wearing cloths that on any other day they would be laughed at but today. Today its all royal, its the norm.
Millions of people gathered together, yet not because they come to overthrow an evil government but because they've come to celebrate a great one, for one day thats the norm.
Guys who would never in a million years be caught admiring womens gowns, well last night that was the norm.
Most people tend to get bored in church, yet here it seemed that an hour long ceremony was to short. It almost seemed to be the norm.
But most of all, all those people that always wish bad upon everyone for one day they like wishing everyone only happiness is the norm.

One more thing entered my mind as I watched. We always look upon government as a necessary evil, but as I watched the wedding I realized that if done right government can be the greatest source of pride and joy to the entire world. Just remember its what we do that make those that govern upon us who they truly are.
LONG LIVE THE KING

So These Are The Winners? Oscars 2011

So its now 4 o'clock in the morning the Oscars have been over for hours and Hollywood Blvd looks like its been run over by a bunch of homeless drunks. Except they all make in one night what your average person will make in a lifetime.
It was truly a long night because some smart ass Oscars executive had this brilliant idea of having every nominee for a best original song go and perform their song. When i want to watch a music awards show i kick back and watch the Grammys when I sit down to watch the Oscars I don't want to be shown music that Ive never heard before, I want to see movie stars. But the night is yet young so lets give out awards to a bunch of short films no ones ever seen or heard of before. Great my nights already ruined and they haven't even given out a single meaningful award yet.
Now lets get to the awards. Christain Bale got best supporting actor for his role as Dicky Ward in The Fighter. An award truly well deserved for a role well played. Mellisa Leo won for best supporting actress for her role as the mom of Dicky and Mickey Ward, also well deserved. Among the many great things about The Fighter was the casting and these awards proved it.
Best adapted screenplay went to Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network. I hadn't picked it to win many awards but this was an award that it defiantly deserved, because as you watched it for the first time you knew that even if it would have been given to you just as a script in a booklet you wouldn't have been able to put it down.
Best actress went to the soon to be a mom Natalie Portman for Black Swan. I personally thought the movie was overrated and if not for the fact that we haven't seen a ballet movie before it never would have gotten the recognition it did. But looking at the nominees list there was no better actress this year so congrats Natalie.
Best actor was as predictable as an awards show has ever been with it going to Colin Firth for his amazing role in The Kings Speech. If I may say one thing its that Leonardo Dicaprio should have been nominated for his role in Shutter Island. I know that movie wasn't in any conversations for an Oscar, but Leo was amazing and sometimes it seems as if Hollywood is almost scared to give an award to an actor thats to big. James Franco in his role in 127 hours deserves some credit too, because he did something that I didn't believe was possible which was have an entire movie and 90 percent of the time just have him talking to the camera and still keep it interesting.
Best motion picture and best director went to the The Kings Speech. The Kings Speech is one of those films you know they still will be watching in 20 years so it defiantly deserved best motion picture. On the other hand I believe the person that should have won best director wasn't even nominated. Christopher Nolan for Inception. The reason I say that is because in my opinion what makes someone a best director is how big and how complicated of a movie it is. And although The Kings Speech was a great film it wasn't close to as big and as complicated to make as Inception. Besides we are not all stupid theres a reason Inception was the highest grossing film of the year.
